Definition |
A zonotic infection caused by one of four specied of gram-negatice Brucella bacilli, presenting as nondescript febrile illness and transmitted from cattle, goats and hogs by ingestion of unpasteurised milk or contract with infected meat or placentae. |

Prognosis |
Untreated case carried a mortality of 2%, but with treatment cure takes 2-3 weeks in an uncomplicated case. |

General Measures |
Supportive care as required for maintaining nutrition, hydration, vitamin supplements. Suppurative lesions to be drained |

On nature of infection and need for precautions for prevention, in the future. |

Follow Up |
Periodic check up for complications in a chronic case under therapy. Check serology after 6 months and one year. |

Inadequate Response |
Rule our diseases that mimic like Hodgkin’s disease. HIV infection, tuberculosis, disseminated fungal infections. |

Prevention |
Avoiding infected milk, and contact with meat and placenta. Protection in hazardous occupations by wearing protective clothing, gloves etc. |
