A transient condition of disordered conciousness, characterized by confusion plus excess sympathetic activity and normally lasting less than 7 days. |

Depends on the cause of delirium. |

General Measures |
The symptoms that are usually worse at night are best managed by simple nursing measures, calm and quiet environment, and some mild illumination with a light, in the bedroom. |

Inadequate Response |
Review cause and ensure adequate management of underlying cause. |

Prevention |
Avoidance, where possible, of admission of a dementia case into a hospital. |
