A sexually transmitted disease caused by gram-negative intra-cellular gonococcus leading to purulent inflammation of mucous membranes. |

Prognosis |
Excellent with early therapy and return to normal function the rule. |

General Measures |
To get tested for syphills, and HIV. To abstain from sexual activity until after follow up. |

Advice to Patient |
To get partner/ partners identified, tested and created for gonorrhoea as well as HIV. Discuss STD and methods of prevention |

Follow Up |
Culture from mucosal site a week after completing therapy, to ensure cure. |

Inadequate Response |
? Pencilinase producing. ? Fluroquinolone resistant. Both of these are known. |

Prevention |
For initial infection, use of condoms, which offer partial protection. No sexual intercourse until cure of patient and partnet. |
