Albendzole 400mg as single dose.
Hydatid disease
Albendazole 400mg bid for 28 days. Treatment may be repeated after a 14 days interval. 3 cycles may be administered thus. Blood counts and liver function tests to be done before treatments and twice during each cycle. Nonhormonal contraception during and for a month after treatment.
Tape worm
Patient to refrain from solid food the evening before treatment. Niclosamede 2 Gms (4 tablets) to be chewed and swallowed with a little water or 1 Gm (2 tablets) to be chewed and swallowed with a little water followed by another 1 Gm an hour later. Magnesium sulphate (Epsonm salt) 15 gms in a glass of water to be given after 2 hours as a brisk purgative. For hymenolopis nana 2 gms after food on the first day, followed by 1 gm daily after food for the next 6 days. Adverse reactions to Niclosamide are mostly mild G.I. disturbances
