Excessive perspiration due to over activity of the sweat gland. May be generalized or confined to soles, palms, axillae, groin or infra-mammary region. May lead to maceration of skin, fissuring and scaling. Could be a social embarrassment. May cause bad odour.
Treatment
Using a soap containing chlorhexidine to stall odour. May use antiperspiratnts containing aluminium chlorhydroxy complex (not to be used just after bathing)
Permitting flow of cold tap water for 10-15 minutes over palms and soles, if localized to those regions (‘Tap water ionophoresis’)
Use of anticholinergic tablets for short periods, if sweting in anxiety-induced. But this can cause dry mouth.
