Adult:As tablet/capsule: ≥60 kg: 400 mg daily as a single dose or in 2 divided doses; <60 kg: 250 mg daily.

HIV INFECTION
Adult:
>3 mth (or >6 yr with enteric-coated tablets): 240 mg/m2 daily or 180 mg/m2 daily in combination with zidovudine.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach (i.e. At least one hour before food or four hours after food). (Take on an empty stomach ½ hr before or 2 hr after meals.)
Precautions
History of pancreatitis and liver disease; pregnancy; impaired hepatic and renal function; peripheral neuropathy; hyperuricaemia. Half-yrly dilated retinal examinations are recommended.

Interactions
Increased effect with allopurinol and ganciclovir; hydroxyurea; increased toxicity with ribavirin or tenofovir. Decreased effects of quinolones, tetracyclines, indinavir. Increased risk of pancreatitis when used with pentamidine, stavudine or co-trimoxazole.
