TREATMENT OF DEPRESSION |
Adult:
As sodium: 12.5 mg tid. Elderly: Dose reduction to total daily dose of 25 mg. Patients with renal impairment: Total daily dose of 25 mg daily. No dose modification in patients with chronic alcoholism or cirrhosis. |

Administration |
Should be taken on an empty stomach (i.e. At least one hour before food or four hours after food). (Take before main meals.) |

Precautions |
General anaesthesia; tasks requiring mental alertness. Avoid abrupt withdrawal, dosage to be decreased gradually over 7-14 days. |

Adverse Drug Reactions |
Abdominal pain, fatigue, nausea, constipation, lack of appetite, insomnia, drowsiness, palpitations, muscular or joint pain, headache, vertigo, tremour, dry mouth, hepatitis (rare) |

Interactions |
Avoid concurrent admin with MAOI, start tianeptine 2 wk after discontinuation from MAOI. Decreased absorption with alcohol. |
