Indication & Dosage
 
 
Oral
TREATMENT OF DEPRESSION
Adult: As sodium: 12.5 mg tid.
Elderly: Dose reduction to total daily dose of 25 mg.
Patients with renal impairment: Total daily dose of 25 mg daily. No dose modification in patients with chronic alcoholism or cirrhosis.
   
Administration Should be taken on an empty stomach (i.e. At least one hour before food or four hours after food). (Take before main meals.)
   
Precautions General anaesthesia; tasks requiring mental alertness. Avoid abrupt withdrawal, dosage to be decreased gradually over 7-14 days.
   
Adverse Drug Reactions Abdominal pain, fatigue, nausea, constipation, lack of appetite, insomnia, drowsiness, palpitations, muscular or joint pain, headache, vertigo, tremour, dry mouth, hepatitis (rare)
   
Interactions

Avoid concurrent admin with MAOI, start tianeptine 2 wk after discontinuation from MAOI.

Decreased absorption with alcohol.
